MOC: Ryobix [RY-081X]

This is a creation by Bluesky user Bre/Tyrigsus

Not much context was given on Bre’s Bluesky post, just that Ryobix is “The BIONICLE Slender Man”. A considerable amount of detail has gone into this creation, using both system and CCBS to create some very streamlined angles. Wanting to learn more about this MOC, I was able to find some older versions of it with the following backstory:

Ryobix is a loyal warrior and guard to his master, Valior. Being mostly robotic, the only living tissue is overgrown. Thus creating spikes and his hunched, slender shape. He runs the main AI controlling system for the TRS models. Mostly to keep the system updated, clean, and virus/Trojan/malware free. Ryobix uses his holographic screens and pre-recordings to speak; even though he can speak himself. Ryobix himself is a very advanced robotic system, years ahead of our technology today. Skilled in the ways of defense and doesn’t ever flinch.

This is clearly a well loved creation that has been revamped over the years, so the story above may be out of date. I find it interesting that Ryobix’s chosen manner of speech predates Sirenhead, while bearing a similarity to how the entity “talks”. I think this coincidence adds an interesting detail to it’s direct “Slender Man” inspirations, which has similar horror elements. Other versions of this MOC include a red tie like Slenderman, sometimes built into the MOC, and sometimes as a non-LEGO element. I don’t want to spoil all the pictures here on MOD, so Ill link you to the Bluesky Ryobix post to see more (Like the blacklight photos).

I’m at a loss for constructive criticism on this MOC, the builder has already made it pretty much perfect. Maybe I’d try to give the tentacles individually posable claws using black mechanical arms and t-valves? I might also try to replace the custom 3D printed hands with official LEGO elements, if only for making it 100% LEGO.

You can see more of Tyrigsus’s work on Bluesky, Instagram, DeviantArt, Twitter, and Tumblr. She has many MOCs with this level of detail, often including brick built structures and greebling for tiny details. Her work has also been on display at LEGO fan events, so you might even get to see her work in person one of these days.
