MNOG, MNOG II, & VNOG Update

Just in time for the 20-year anniversary of the original Mata Nui Online Game, we now present a new update for Mata Nui Online Game (the original progress-saving version), Mata Nui Online Game: Re-Release (the 2006 chapter-select version), Mata Nui Online Game II, and Voya Nui Online Game.

These updates bring a variety of new improvements, including:

  • Compatibility with the latest operating system versions for Windows, macOS, and Linux.
  • A polished application for each platform, with customized icons and window titles.
  • A Windows installer if you prefer, or a ZIP if you don’t.
  • Capping the framerate to the intended 18FPS in both MNOG versions.
  • The bottom bar for MNOG is now integrated into the standalone player for the 2001 version, serving as a menu for fullscreening the game, editing and restarting your progress, other settings, and opening the…
  • Newly restored support pages for MNOG!
  • MNOG II gets a new opening menu, through which the game can be restarted and progress can be edited (widgets=999 anyone?).
  • MNOG II also gets a newly restored Nixie’s Library meticulously reconstructed in Flash 6 based on the available screenshots using 100% vector graphics.
  • Other MNOG II changes, including the reconstructed Nokama’s Conversation and the addition of an in-game way to collect the Stamina and Prosperity charms, were revisited and polished up.
  • MNOG II loading and soft-lock bugs should also be no more, with an improved loading bug fix!
  • VNOG also gets the new opening menu treatment, through which progress can be edited.

All these games can also be played online in your browser with progress saving to either your MaskOfDestiny account, or for the first time your browser’s local storage (except for the 2006 MNOG re-release, which uses a chapter-select menu instead). Flash Player is officially end-of-life today though, so you may want to use the download option instead to avoid any issues with the browser plugin no longer being supported.

All the other BIONICLE and LEGO games will get a similar treatment, so stay tuned for future updates!

  1. So I was trying to play the MNOG II, and I got to Taipu, and I started stamina training, and left clicking makes Hahli walk, but it doesn’t refill the stamina bar / stop it from draining, so I can’t actually gain stamina. I have the work-around of just going into the progress editor, but is there any way to make the mini-game work as intended?

  2. This is amazing! I am still a compulsive player of these games and love to see the amazing support. I’m particularly fond of MNOGII and seeing this support has my mouth agape-I can not believe the updated Nixie’s library. I walked in and I was shocked. Thank you so much for the great work!!! A couple of questions:

    1. (MNOG II) Would there be any way to set the Framerate back to 30 or as a possible future implementation? What caused the reversion, for authenticity’s sake?
    2. (MNOG II) I can’t appear to set the quality in Flash Player’s settings when right cliicking, notably the “High”, “8×8” and “16×16” settings. Any idea why this may be?
    3. (MNOG) What are the support pages for MNOG??

Thank you again for continually improving and updating these legendary pieces of bionicle media-they are truly in the hands of people who know their worth!

      1. MNOG II currently uses 30fps, we didn’t change it.
      2. That’s a good question, my guess would be it’s a weird Flash Player bug, as it has a lot of weird edge-cases. If I figure something out about it I’ll see if this can be improved.
      3. These are the support pages. In the 2001 Auto-Saving version there’s a button on the bottom bar where it can be viewed. The 2006 re-relased version has PDF walkthroughs instead.
