Market Watch: Infected Hau

While browsing through Bricklink and eBay, this time the Infected Hau caught my attention, the same mask worn by our mascot Evil Tahu. These were not exactly rare, as 2 came with the relatively expensive Muaka & Kane-ra set, and sometimes could be found in random mask packs. One of our own staff reported pulling 6 of them total from just over 100 mask packs. With a kanohi pack running about $1.99 USD at the time, it would have cost you an average of $40.00 USD to get one infected hau. To be fair, you would also be getting 40 masks and 20 toa heads to display some of the masks on. In theory, that made Muaka & Kane-ra the cheapest per-dollar option to get the masks at the time, and a decent set to go with them.

This is also the only mask to have been hand-painted as part of it’s manufacturing process, making it a rather unique mask to add to a collection. The only other uncommon mask to equal it’s uniqueness in this regard is the Chrome Hau.

Thankfully, you wont need to buy a 70 dollar set or 40 dollars worth of common kanohi to obtain this collectible. These days they are readily available over on Bricklink, averaging about 15 bucks each before shipping and and some listings as low as 8 bucks depending on country. If you have a preference for eBay, you can expect to pay about 25 bucks after shipping, although some sellers are willing to take a “best offer” if you want to take a shot at haggling it down.
