Market Watch: Battle Of Metru Nui

While the BIONICLE minifigure playsets never did too well, most of them still managed to retain a decent aftermarket value, even for pre-owned sets. Set number 8759, Battle of Metru Nui seems to be one of the exceptions. While the sealed versions have grown to a value of nearly $140.00 USD according to BrickEconomy, they report that the pre owned prices are averaging lower than MSRP!

This is bad news for anyone trying to sell a used Battle Of Metru Nui playset, though good news if your trying to buy one! According to BRICKSET, the model’s dimensions come in at 22.7 x 15.1 x 4.5 in, making it a pretty good set to display on a wide enough shelf.

On Bricklink, our readers in the United Kingdom and Netherlands seem to have the best pre-owned prices, between GBP 32.00 ($42.66 USD) to GBP 47.99 (USD 63.99).

For those of us in the United States, eBay appears to be out best bet:

*This listing for 85.00 comes with free shipping and the seller claims it is complete. I will contest that it is NOT brand new, as some of the model has clearly been assembled. The seller is likely claiming it is new because much of the set is still sealed in the original part bags. Most likely the original owner assembled part of it, never finished it, so the parts are new’ish in that they weren’t extensively played with. That aside, 85 bucks for what looks to be upwards of 80% new is not bad.

*This listing for $65.00 before shipping (which would cost me $15.65) is being sold as-is and the seller warns may be missing pieces. They have not counted to confirm if anything is missing, but they have provided pictures to give you a better idea on if it’s worth taking a chance. At the very least, most of it is there, though it looks like a few non-LEGO toy parts got mixed in. It also comes with the original box, which is not in perfect shape, but it’s there if you want it. The seller’s page advertises a 10% off coupon code “SAVEWITHHERMAN”, so give that a shot at checkout, it might save you another $6.50.
