Surprise! DC Studios, who made most of the cartridges in the Game Boy Advance Video series, fully produced their own version of Legends of Metru Nui. Sadly, no trace of the cart itself survives. However, anonymously shared with BMP are 5 screenshots that give a fair idea of what the experience would have been. Check out that video compression… we really could have had it all.
For this week’s BMP Backlog, The Legend Reborn debuts on the new site with a couple materials additions! We’ve got an ad for The Legend Reborn Revealed, a version of TLR that aired on Nicktoons once and is itself sadly not preserved online. Watch the ad to see what we’re missing – Mark Baldo transposed directly over the movie as it plays!! Among other things.
We’ve also got a small storyboard sequence from TLR. This appears to be a deleted scene from the Skrall battle at the end. It offers up a kind of feeble ‘in-universe justification’ for the Thornax launcher the toy Mata Nui has. Folks, I think it was fine that he just had a sword!!

Wow.
I can’t believe Scott the Woz didn’t even cover the Bionicle 2 movie on the GBA Video service.
Also, about the “Mata Nui grabbing the Thornax Launcher” moment, The Legend Reborn book has a similar scene to this. It’s script, I would say.
Well, not Game Boy Advance “game”. It functions like a DVD player. Lol. I didn’t know the GBA can do that.
There was going to be a Game Boy Advance game for the Legends of Metru Nui movie?! Wow! Didn’t know that! Pity that it got canceled. I never did Game Boy Advance, anyway. No offense.
I wish we can find a way to get that behind-the-scenes special for The Legend Reborn. I do remember there being a version of the movie where there were captions that tell you fun facts, like how the Sandray Canyon was created by the prototype Mata Nui Robot when the robot used its foot to do so. Can’t believe I remember that well.
I wish Mata Nui had used a Thornax Launcher in the story. Could make his life on Bara Magna easier. Why put a Thornax Launcher in the Mata Nui sets in 2009 when he doesn’t use it?
I have see the Metus snake concept before. It was from a YouTube video from that guy named Duck Bricks when he was showing people Christian Faber’s concept art stuff. I also remember a few original ideas for The Legend Reborn and is cancelled sequels being mentioned in that video. The ideas are in these links: https://www.bzpower.com/blogs/entry/76198-bionicle-5-treatment/ and https://www.bzpower.com/topic/36544-the-unused-plans-for-the-2009-2011-trilogy/#comment-1218494 (please do not tell people these things. BZPower doesn’t delete posts, anyway).
I don’t want to sound kind-of off-topic, but I hope someone will get stuff like these for Hero Factory (Bionicle’s honorary part, and I respect it). I also wonder if Duck Bricks has stuff for Bionicle G2, too?
Anyway, good Bionicle finds! 🙂
