ICFTA: Bottoms Up! (Sand Tarakava, Part 3)

Just a quick couple of photos of the bottom of the Sand Tarakava, because of a comment on the original article. Hopefully, this will fill in a few missing elements for those looking to duplicate the Sand Tarakava as closely as possible.

Sand Tarakava: Detail of top wheel (left) and rear wheel (right)

Of note in this first picture is the Light Gray Technic, Axle Connector 2L (Ridged with x Hole x Orientation) piece connecting the top wheel to the Black Technic, Liftarm, Modified Bent Thick 1 x 9 (7 – 3) (left-side of top of image). The other side of the wheel is connected using a Light Gray Technic Bush and a black axle. The rear wheel has a similarly asymmetric build with a Light Gray Technic Bush on the right side only (seen here right-of-center in the image, near the top).

Sand Tarakava: Detail of connections between lower-back and wheel assembly

Most of the construction in this image is the same as in the production Tarakava units, except for variations in color.

Sand Tarakava: Detail of bottom

From this bottoms-up view, you get a good look at the Gray Plate, Modified 2 x 2 with Pin Holes and the two black pins that give the connection of the Tarakava back to the wheel assembly more of a uniform cylindrical look (more evident in the second image). I should point out that the short arms of the two Light Gray Technic, Liftarm, Modified Bent Thick L-Shape 2 x 4 pieces (center) are pointed directly at the camera, and are therefore “one” closer to the camera than the ends of the two outside Light Gray Technic, Liftarm, Modified Bent Thick L-Shape 3 x 5 pieces to which they are connected.

The “gold” shadows on a couple pieces here are just an artifact of the lighting. The “dimples” in the liftarms in these three images are real though, and an indication that these are either prototype pieces or early production pieces, because the commercially-available Tarakava sport completely-smooth surfaces.

  1. You are welcome! I did not realize just how different the Sand Tarakava’s wheel assembly is from its production siblings until I flipped it upside-down and started photographing it. I’m not surprised that anyone would have difficulty figuring it out without additional photos.

  2. Thank you so much! I realize now that I completely misinterpreted what I thought I saw in the last post. Unfortunately, I jumped the gun and already released the instructions with my mistake. Welp, time to get to work on updating them.
