Most game controllers don’t play nice with classic Flash games like MNOG, but then the Steam Controller is not most game controllers.
So will it work? This weekend I gave it a try!
A little surprisingly, after the standard setup process of pairing it to the puck, it just works right out of the box!
Since the Steam Controller features mouse-like input capabilities via the integrated track pads, I was pretty confident it should be possible to make it work somehow, but having it work without any manual configuration was a pleasant surprise.
So if you are on the waitlist for the Steam Controller or a Steam Machine bundle wondering if you will be able to play this classic gem from 2001, fear not! It just works!
Some technical background information: Normally only some late-generation Flash games would ever have game controller support, and unfortunately Flash Player doesn’t expose any game controller APIs to early-generation Flash games (MNOG is a first-generation Flash game), so it would be very difficult to add support for other controllers.
