MARKing One Year

November 1st marks my first anniversary as a Mask of Destiny staff member. To commemorate the event, I interviewed myself.

Q: What do you do when you are not working on a story for Mask of Destiny?

A: I am always working on a story for Mask of Destiny. On rare occasions, I sleep.

Q: How did you first become interested in BIONICLE™?

A: It was the MATA NUI ONLINE GAME . I first stumbled across it around April 1, 2001. I have been a fool for it ever since.

Q: What are some of your favorite BIONICLE characters and sets?

A: KOPAKA is just too cool! Have you seen the things he can do with that sword !? All of the residents of Ko-Wahi ( NUJU , MATORO , and KOPEKE) are wonderful, but the BIONICLE character I most closely identify with is TAMARU.

MUAKA and KANE-RA were perhaps the most fun to build and the MANAS are a blast to play with, but I have to give a nod to the prototype SAND TARAKAVA as my favorite personal set for its uniqueness.

Q: How did you join the staff of Mask of Destiny?

A: Purple Dave put out a plea for help , and since I was already spending far too much time on all things BIONICLE, I sent him my credentials. I think he put me on staff so I would stop bothering him with complicated mathematical analyses .

Q: What is your favorite thing about being a staff member of Mask of Destiny?

A: The interviews: Ghost , Templar , Greg Farshtey, Carlos D’Anda, and Randy Elliot , and Dimensioneer . Everyone involved with BIONICLE is very gracious and friendly.

Q: What is your least favorite?

A: Klez . Some MoD readers still harbor this virus on their computers and send it to me daily. Do everyone you ever communicated with a big favor and check your computer for Klez .

Q: What advice do you have for someone who might want to be a staff member of MoD someday?

A: Live near a LEGOLAND ® . Better yet, live in LEGOLAND; preferably one in Europe. You will need a decent digital camera. A scanner would be nice. Good grammar and spelling are a must: e.g. “no one” instead of “noone” and “anyway” instead of “anyways”. You might want to put a color in front of your name. You should live, eat, and breathe BIONICLE. Most important of all, you should not require more than one hour of sleep per month.

Q: Anything you would like to add?

A: Yes. The readers of Mask of Destiny are great! They see and hear things we never could, and then they send them in to news@maskofdestiny.com so we can share them with everyone else. They truly are the best part of Mask of Destiny!

I can’t wait to see what the next twelve months have in store for us all!
