Face-To-Face Posted by Mark on November 30, 2001: For those of you who prefer displaying all 72 of your KANOHI face-on, here is one made entirely out of LEGO® bricks.
Update: I have added an exploded view of one of the mounts.

Another BIONICLE™ Cancellation Posted by Mark on November 29, 2001: I noticed earlier that the “BIONICLE™:Master Builders” book by Alexander Skinnerton had disappeared from Amazon.com and Barnes & Noble.com. I then received an email from Amazon.com, where I had pre-ordered the book, stating "Though we had expected to be able to send this item to you, we've since found that it will not be released after all."

If Only It Were Available Posted by Mark on November 29, 2001: Among the many wonderful things listed online at LEGO® SHOP AT HOME but not available for purchase (at least in the USA) is this BIONICLE™ BACKPACK featuring TAHU. It is Item# B3701, should you want to add it to your wish list.

Pack-Popper Prevention Posted by Purple_Dave on November 28, 2001: So you've got a few extra bucks to spend, and you're wondering what you should buy. New socks? Nah, too boring. A few hundred penny gumballs? Mmm...no. That'd just be too weird. Oh yeah, you're still missing a few KANOHI, so maybe you'll get a pack or two. But when you get to the store, every single one has been popped open by some unscrupulous person. Well, not anymore.

Resource: English-Maori Translator With Audio Posted by Mark on November 27, 2001: Many people wonder about how to pronounce the various words and names of BIONICLE™. The best resource for pronunciations are the various CD-ROMs previously made available as promotions or the mini-CDs found in early TOA canisters. But if you want to dig into the roots of the language, check out the English-Maori Word Translator at the University of Otago in New Zealand, where you will not only be able to explore the meanings of some of the words but can also listen to them spoken.

Review: LEGO® BIONICLE™ CLOCK Posted by Mark on November 25, 2001: I purchased one of the LEGO® BIONICLE™ CLOCKs so I could review it for you. Here it is, along with pictures.

And A Couple Of My Own Posted by Purple_Dave on November 23, 2001: I didn't get a chance to edit all the weapon mount photos yesterday, so I posted all the reader submitted ones and held off on my own until today.
|
MoD MOCs Posted by Purple_Dave on November 21, 2001: Tomorrow, with my one-day weekend, I'm going to photograph the next batch of reader-submitted TOA weapon-holders. If you've got one to add, this is your last chance to get it posted for a while.
While we will post MOCs of pretty much any nature, there are a couple of things that I'm seriously interested in seeing. Mostly I'm interested in a good USSAL crab design, but I'd also like to see the Lavaboard that you get in the MATA NUI online game.
|
Surf's Up! Posted by Purple_Dave on November 21, 2001: A MoD reader from the McRae family (who never left his first name...) submitted a MOC surfboard for TAHU. I hadn't ever given any thought to this type of accessory, but since he's hanging ten in the video clip from the TOA mini-CD, it certainly fits with the story.

RED RURU Immigrating To North America Posted by Mark on November 20, 2001: The buzz on BZ Community has been about the new BIONICLE™ CLOCK. I called the LEGO® Outlet in Dawsonville, Georgia and they do indeed have BIONICLE™ CLOCKs for sale there (for $24.95) and the clocks do include the RED RURU mask. The RED RURU joins the BLACK RURU as the only (previously) European-exclusive masks available in North America.
Update: I have posted a review of the clock along with some pictures.

The Seven Tohungurai Posted by Purple_Dave on November 17, 2001: Okay, fine, I really stretched for the title, but that's not the important part. What's important is that the MATA NUI online game has been updated.
|
Tale Of The TOA Posted by Purple_Dave on November 15, 2001: MoD reader Tatopeludo sent in this scan of the third issue of the BIONICLE™ comic book miniseries. As I suspected, this one appears to focus on TAHU and ONUA, who, until now, have only appeared in one frame at the end of the first issue.

Where's TAHU? Posted by Purple_Dave on November 14, 2001: Okay, this story took almost a month for me to verify, but it was worth it...
|
Downtime Posted by Purple_Dave on November 13, 2001: My computer is making noises that computers shouldn't make, so I'm going to be taking it in for some warranty work Wednesday morning. I probably won't be able to post any updates during that time, unless someone wants to send me a free computer by next day shipping. (Hey, a guy can dream, can't he?) Mark will be covering the news while I'm cut off from the Net. I will be able to check my e-mail from work, but I probably won't be able to deal with every message until I've got my purple box back. Hopefully that won't take too long...
UPDATE: Well, that was quick. It took about three hours for them to deal with the problem. Turns out my power supply fan was dead and the ugly noises were the ongoing death-rattle of my CPU fan. Ugly problem, simple fix.

Spotlight: GOLD HAU Posted by Mark on November 11, 2001: If you don't think you are going to win a 14-karat solid GOLD HAU from LEGO®, then you might be interested in bidding on a merely golden one here. But read the rest of this story first for some important information!
|
Yet Another BOHROK Pic Posted by Purple_Dave on November 8, 2001: A new BOHROK pic has shown up on Brickshelf.com. Showing a trend similar to the TOA promo pics, this one also puts the red one in the spotlight.
UPDATE: I have added "the pod-burster 'Truth' pic" to the story. Mark

New Pieces Needed Posted by Purple_Dave on November 7, 2001: I've got a very cool MOC nearly finished, but I need a couple of pieces to complete it. What I'm looking for are a pair of the large, trans-blue wings from this INSECTOIDS set. I'll also need the four grey pieces used to mount them. I need them all to be in like-new condition, so if you've got a pair you're willing to offer, I'm willing to trade KANOHI for them.
UPDATE: I've got another MOC in the planning stages and I just realized that I also need to get a bunch of shoulder/hip joints in both orange (from NUI-RAMA or FLARE) and red (from TORCH) and as many #2 plus-rods as I can get my hands on. I'm also still looking for another four red GALI hooks.
|
Manitoria Posted by Purple_Dave on November 7, 2001: MoD reader Ian Brazee-Cannon submits this centaur-like MOC with a customized MASK. Somehow the MASK reminds me of one of ol' Pointy-Ears' villians. Or would that be two of them?
|
LEGOLAND® And You Posted by Mark on November 6, 2001: LEGO® Direct and LEGOLAND® are offering a "once-in-a-lifetime" vacation package on eBay as part of the Auction for America. The package includes a VIP tour of the LEGOLAND® California park, lodging for four, a host of other special privileges in the park, some collectibles, and a 3-D bust Sculpture of you!
UPDATE: The auction has ended and this vacation package sold for $6,600.

Exclusive KANOHI Collector Case At Toys "R" Us Posted by Mark on November 5, 2001: Toys "R" Us is offering an exclusive LEGO® BIONICLE™ Collector Case which holds up to 73 KANOHI for $9.99. Or get it free when you buy any LEGO® BIONICLE™ set (NUI-RAMA on up to MANAS) and use Coupon #19 from "The Big Toy Book".
UPDATE: I have added pictures of the Collector Case.

BIONICLE™ Story Contest At LEGO.com Posted by Mark on November 5, 2001: If you are 16 years old or younger and like to write, you might want to try your hand at the LEGO® Story Contest. You can enter a story from now until December 31, 2001. The story needs to be about the BIONICLE™ picture posted at the website, so be certain to check it out before you start writing.

Box, Contents Not Included Posted by Purple_Dave on November 5, 2001: Philip pointed this eBay auction out to me today. My personal choice is to store my collection on the can-tops, but I know a lot of collectors want to be able to see every MASK head-on. If you don't have nearly enough of the right LEGO® pieces to build a rack, this type of display case might be a less expensive route, provided you don't have to go buy lots of power tools to build one. Anyways, it's interesting that this guy took the time to add posts for the McD's TOHUNGA and the five current special MASKS, but left no open pegs for any of the other RAHI MASKS.
Remember though, if you're thinking of bidding on this actual display case, take the time to check feedback, payment, and shipping terms for this auction before submitting a bid.
|
Playing Both Sides Against The Middle Posted by Purple_Dave on November 4, 2001: MoD reader Daniel Raynor sent in this picture of a Toa double agent. Well, sort of. From the description I got, he sounds less like a true double agent and more like Loki from Norse mythology, where he's working for the good guys, but he is very unpredictable, unreliable, and untrustworthy.
|
Weapon Mounts Galore! Posted by Purple_Dave on November 3, 2001: With the previous designs that have been posted, we're now up to a grand total of five different ways to mount the longer TOA weapons.
|
BZ Chronicle Updated Posted by Purple_Dave on November 2, 2001: Okay, yeah, it was updated on Sunday, but I kinda wanted to get a chance to listen to it before posting it here. Unfortunately, it took me a lot longer than I'd planned. Anyways, go here to download it, but since it's a whopping 8 1/2 Megs, it will take a while if you're running a phone modem like myself.
|
And Then There Were Four Posted by Purple_Dave on November 1, 2001: We've signed on a fourth staff member, Mark Durham. I'll have to be spending some time getting him settled in with the editing software, but hopefully he'll be ready to go in a few days. I've also contacted one other person about joining the staff, and I hope we can get him signed on this weekend.
UPDATE: I'm settled in. See my new pumpkin below. Mark

Another PumpKanohi Posted by Mark on November 1, 2001: Here are two pictures of my prize-winning ("Second Place" at my local Wal-Mart) PAKARI pumpkin. And yes, only one other person entered the contest.
|
True Dedication Posted by Purple_Dave on November 1, 2001: Sue Murphy deserves a round of applause for her level of dedication. She constructed this cool KOPAKA costume for her son Macklin, and it's completely from scratch! Heck, she even put the studs on the shield. Too bad he has poor taste and didn't pick TAHU instead. (Just kidding, Macklin. Well, mostly...)
