EXO-GALI

GALI’s problem with the EXO-TOA is that blue hip-joint stuck to her chest where TAHU, LEWA, and KOPAKA have chest-balls. The BOHROK faceplate used as the chest armor lands squarely on it instead of tucking over the top like it does with a chest-ball. This causes it to push back on GALI’s upper torso and flip her pelvis off the orange plug that she’s supposed to sit on, and that means she can flop around inside like a dead fish.

Coming up with an EXO-GALI design took significantly longer than any of the other five designs did, and when I was done with it, it was a lot more complicated than I would have liked. What I had done was move the entire chest-armor section forward one stud, which lifted the armor off of the hip-joint on her chest, but now she was way too loose inside to stay properly seated, which was worse than what I was trying to fix in the first place. I added a large restraint bar that pushed against her pelvis and thighs to hold her on the orange plug, but then I noticed that this opened a huge gap between the chest-armor and that problematic hip-joint. I had done extensive modifications at this point, using a whopping 18 pieces, only four of which were leftover parts from the EXO-TOA set, and I didn’t really feel like going through the long process of stripping the modifications just to try out another idea, so I tried it out on the set that would later become EXO-TAHU. I liked the result so much that after buying a Destroyer Droid set and finding that it had enough of the pieces I needed, I added the new slimmer restraint bar to all of the other EXO-TOA except EXO-POHATU, who’s doing just fine without it and probably couldn’t use it anyways.

Here you can see the chest-armor flipped down in the loading position, with the restraint bar in clear view. All it requires is two #2 black pins and two 1×6 flat liftarms. You can see the dark-grey ones that I used on EXO-GALI attached to the pin-holes on the two #5 angle-connectors that hold the silver parts of the chest-armor.

And here’s the tricky part. In order for this to work correctly, you need to have GALI (or any other TOA) planted firmly on the orange plug before you close the chest armor. You also need to make sure that the TOA’s gear assembly has not tucked into the EXO head assembly. (You should be able to see the entire external gear assembly from directly above the TOA) Once you’ve made sure of all that, close the chest-armor section. The latch will not snap into place on it’s own anymore, so you’ll need to gently tuck the bottom tip of it into position to lock the chest-armor shut.

When you’ve done that, the restraint bar should land on the foremost tooth on the geared surface of the pelvis and push the lower torso back onto the orange plug. In the above picture I’ve flipped the BOHROK face-plate out of the way so you can see a clear view of how the restraint bar should fit against the TOA.
