Crab-Tastic

Well, it’s not an USSAL, but it is still an interesting design for a crab. And truthfully, in some ways a bit more realisticly designed than the USSAL. If you’ve ever seen the Fiddler Crabs and Red Crabs that are sold at pet stores, the side profile of the body is very similar, with the belly sweeping up in front and the top sloping down in back. On the other hand, it’s short two pairs of legs, while the USSAL is only missing one pair, so maybe it’s not so much more crab-like after all.

My two biggest problems with it are the fact that the claws are exactly the same (making the right one look backwards), and it’s mostly green with a touch of orange (which is probably solely for the purpose of using those green LEHVAK hand-shields). I wouldn’t mind the green so much if the claw arms matched the four legs…or any other part of the body, for that matter, but the LEHVAK hand-shields look even more awkward on the KERAS than they do on a LEHVAK. I’m also not sure how much I like the use of white BOHROK fangs as eye-mounts.

On the positive side, it’s nice to see instructions more two-set combiners posted, since that puts them in the price range that the vast majority of BIONICLE™ fans can handle. And as far as this specific model is concerned, I like how the legs make it look perfectly suited to scuttling about, and the head is always looking up for approaching danger.

On the back of the KERAS are two BOHROK brainpans, which I suspect are there primarily for the purpose of attaching the ends of the green elastic-band used to keep the faceplate from flopping around, but which also serve the purpose of providing a place for a MATORAN rider to stand. The really cool part of this is that you don’t even have to modify the rider to make it work.
